LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) -- Memorial Day weekend has almost everyone pulling their grills out, and on the eve of the holiday, families at Cristo Rey Catholic Church fellow- shipped together for mass. Afterwards, they kicked off with festivities. The fiesta chairman, Manuel Delgado Jr., said it's a nice start to summer fun.

"It's a time when everyone sheds their winter clothes, and they want to get out and be festive. We're the first major festival every year in the mid- Michigan area, so that's why we get the crowds," he said.

No need to pull out the grill when you can come here.

"We do it for you. We've got all the food homemade.. fajitas, gorditas, all the favorites of Mexican food that people like," he added.

The fiesta added some new additions this year for the children to enjoy to give more of a carnival feel. Some of the people attended for the first time being sure to bring the kids along.

"We've been hearing about the fiesta all year long. We joined last year after the festival and so we've been told you can't miss it, and so we planned our weekend around it," Rya McCann said, "We heard there were rides. We have 3 kids so they were pretty excited about that, and the food is awesome. It's very authentic delicious food."
