UPDATE: Four families forced from their homes by fire in East Lansing

UPDATE: The East Lansing Fire Department says four families will have to find a new place to stay after a fire destroyed their townhomes Friday morning.

The American Red Cross is taking care of the families for now.

Firefighters were first called to the 1800 block of Burrwood Circle around 3 a.m. because of a smoldering light fixture. They were called back around 6 a.m. when the fire broke out.

They have not yet determined the cause.

Firefighters battle an apartment fire in East Lansing.

The person who lives in the apartment tells Fox 47 News that firefighters were called to the scene at 3 a.m. for an electrical fire in the attic. Crews are at the apartment on the 1800 block of Burwood Circle.

According to the woman who lives in the apartment, crews put out the fire and told the woman could go back inside.

But, she says the fire started back up again around 6 a.m.

The roof on one side is completely gone.

Our crew on scene says East Lansing Fire is battling the flames.
