Credit Union offering loans to strikers

LANSING, Mich. — Money is getting tight for UAW members who have spent nearly three weeks on the picket line striking against General Motors, and now a Michigan Credit Union is stepping up to help.

Lake Trust Credit Unions across Michigan are offering a limited loan just for strikers.

Borrowers can get a loan of up to $4000 for up to 23 months at a lower fixed rate than most credit cards.

A spokesperson for the credit union says they're just doing what they can to help.

"We're always looking at ways that we can support our members so when things like this happen, we're ready to step up to the plate and do what we have to do to support communities," said Nicole Whitely, Regional Manager of Lake Trust Credit Union.

Lake Trust Credit Union isn't the only company looking to help strikers.

On Friday, Airbnb announced that it wants to help striking workers who are hosts for the company.

They are offering an extra $110 to those who host three nights over the next three months.
