History will be made in the State House of Representatives in January.

That's when a woman will chair the appropriations committee for the first time in state history. House Speaker Tom Leonard has chosen Republican Laura Cox of Livonia for the job.

It's a powerful one, because the appropriations committee is in charge of the state budget.

Cox is a former Wayne County commissioner and U.S. Customs Agent.

She's married to former State Attorney General Mike Cox.
