LANSING, Mich. — BLOCK600 is getting a big name as part of the project.

A Courtyard by Marriott will be developed there.

This will be the first new hotel in 20 years for downtown Lansing.

The Gillespie Group, with Concord Hospitality, announced on Thursday the hotel brand that will be built there.

“It’s not only exciting to finally bring the city a new hotel after all these years, but to also provide an internationally recognized brand into the fold,” said Gillespie Group President Pat Gillespie.

“Courtyard by Marriott is a popular brand for travelers and professionals around the world. We know that their focus on providing quality accommodations will create an impressive, while accessible, lodging option that will bring visitors to stay and experience all that the Stadium District and Lansing has to offer. We can’t wait to see how this new addition increases the city’s tourist engagement. We expect it to attract new businesses to Michigan Avenue surrounding BLOCK600. We can’t wait to share more of our great city with others and have its current residents continuing to feel PROUD TO BE LANSING .”

The hotel is envisioned to include 120-124 guest rooms, a bar and lounge, an outdoor patio, a fitness center and meeting spaces.

“We are extremely eager to begin work on this development in order to enhance and elevate the downtown Lansing area,” said Vice President of Business Development at Concord Hospitality Ryan Maher. “As Concord’s first property in Lansing, The Courtyard by Marriott will be an ideal addition to the BLOCK600 project and we look forward to offering guests a new place to stay while visiting the area.”

The project will also have housing options and a downtown grocery store.

The store will be in the form of a "Meijer urban market."

Groundbreaking is set for spring of this year, and the market, hotel, and apartments should be open in late 2020.
