The 15-year-old son of a candidate for Eaton County sheriff and another 15-year-old-boy are set to be in court later this week, accused of multiple sex crimes involving a minor.

Brody McPhail, son of candidate for sheriff Fred McPhail, who is also the former undersheriff for the county, and Hunter Chance of Ludington are both charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with someone under 13 and child pornography. Brody McPhail is additionally charged with distributing child pornography.

Grand Ledge police brought the charges and told the court this stems from an incident that took place in Grand Ledge May 7th.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka says that his office was assigned the case by the Attorney General's Office, after the Eaton County Prosecutor's office cited a potential conflict.

The most serious of the charges, criminal sexual conduct in the first degree with a victim under 13 years of age, carries with it a potential life sentence.

Brody McPhail and Hunter Chance are scheduled for a probable cause hearing this Friday in Eaton County District Court.
