The Ingham County Board of Commissioners appointed Thomas Morgan to temporarily fill the seat left vacant after Dennis Louney resigned.
Louney left after documents revealed he used his county email address for personal matters during the primary election.
Morgan is a Democrat and will serve through the end of the year.
He is running for the permanent position on the November ballot.
