A local coin dealership is warning of counterfeit foreign currency found in Lansing.
Liberty Coins in Frandor tells us someone brought in a fake 50 euro note on Monday. He told them somebody gave it to him as a tip and that he saw more euros like it in the person's wallet.
Liberty thinks students at Michigan State might be particularly vulnerable to counterfeit foreign currencies, given the number of people who study abroad or are international students.
Liberty says their staffer became suspicious of the 50 euro note because the paper didn't feel right, the colors were off, and there was no watermark. The hologram also started to come off after playing around with the money.
If you think you've wound up with counterfeit money somehow, call police.
