Council Chambers to be renamed after former Lansing Mayor

LANSING, Mich — The Lansing Council Chambers will be getting an official name soon.

City Council has decided to rename the Chambers to the "Tony Benavides Lansing City Council Chambers."

Benavides was first elected as a city official in Lansing in 1982.

He served as the first Hispanic Council Member for 22 years.

He was council president numerous times, and served as Lansing's Mayor for three years in 2003.

The official naming event will take place on Monday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. at 124 W. Michigan Avenue on the 10th floor.
