Jackson, Mich. (WSYM) - Consumers Energy Employees, Bethany Weens and Jessica Spagnuolovillarreal, wanted to make a difference.
"Consumers Energy has a long history of Environmental Stewardship so just a couple of years ago we really started investing more in this idea by getting green teams going." said Spagnuolovillarreal. " We have been working with the city to start these clean ups in various parks around Jackson."
Their efforts brought over 179 employees together Friday for the cause.
"We have employees in Ella Sharp Park, the Cascades, Martin Luther King Equality Trail, Loomis Park , and downtown Jackson," said Weens.
Their tasks included picking up trash and litter, picking up tree branches and leaves, and cleaning up the playground in Loomis Park.
But it was all in a joint effort.
"Well, we always feel like we are part of the community at Consumers Energy, and this really helps us feel like we are really giving back," says Consumers Energy employee Julie Nau.
And for the event co-founders, they just want to encourage others to keep the clean up effort going.
"People around the community are going to see that it's going to look nice ," said Weens. "It's also going to help everyone else have more respect and feel good about living here in Jackson."
"And it's awesome to be able to empower the community through events like this," says Spagunolovillarreal.
