MASON, Mich. — While the 111,000 Consumers Energy customers wait for their power to be restored, Consumers handed out ice and water in Jenison, along with ice cream in Mason.

To celebrate national ice cream day and to keep cool in Sunday's heat, Consumers partnered with a local ice cream shop.

The Daily Scoop in Mason handed out free ice cream to consumers energy customers.

"They contacted me earlier today and they asked if we still had power. We were very fortunate to have power still and then they asked if we would be willing to work with them on a promotion and they were pretty much going to pay for ice cream for them. We were more than happy to work with them on that and give back to the community," said Shawn Sodman the owner of the Daily Scoop.

All customers had to do was mention the Consumer's Energy promotion to get a chocolate, vanilla or twist soft serve.
