JACKSON, Mich. — A busy road near Jackson High School is closed for water main work.

Steward Avenue is shut down between Wildwood and Ganson Street.

The plan is to replace an aging and undersized water main with new piping, then re-pave the road.

Curbs and sidewalks will also be repaired, and new lighting will be installed.

People will be able to get to the apartment complexes that are located there, as well as the school, but otherwise, Steward will be closed to through traffic.

The work is expected to be done late August.

There are plans to resurface Steward Avenue north of the railroad tracks to W. Ganson Street, but there hasn't been a time frame announced for that yet.
