The closer we get to spring and warm weather, the more construction projects will start popping up. But there's a problem, not enough people to do the job.
Since the sun has been out more Frank Belknap has been working more.
"I'm actually working two different jobs right now and it's hard for me to keep up at this time" Belknap said.
He's been in the construction industry for over 15 years and says he's never seen such a high need for workers.
As a contractor, Belknap says he's been getting plenty of business lately, "in the construction business they are so busy right now that they can't keep up with it."
As the economy continues to improve the demand is only getting larger.
"Things are looking up and I think that's all part of it. When those things look up the construction business starts rising" Belknap explains.
After the recession, both the housing and construction industry took a hit and most construction was halted; which saw many workers leading the field altogether.
"Now what's happening is the industry is back and we need those people back or we need new people to come in and start working in this industry" said Home Builders Association of Greater Lansing's CEO, Cindy Kosloski.
HBA has been working to keep up with the demand for more workers and has held several job fairs hoping to fill those vacant spots.
Kosloski says they've had to change their strategy "the industry is seeing an influx of people wanting new homes but what's happening is we don't have enough workers to fill that demand."
They're hoping to get those demands filled by reaching out to high school students.
"We're going in and talking to students we're telling them about the rewarding opportunities there are and there are high paying jobs" said Odd Fellows' Bret Oleksyn.
Trying to get jobs that need to be filled now, "we're trying to attract people now not just for the future but for the now" said Oleksyn.
There are plenty of jobs, just not enough people to work them.
"There's so many projects," said Belknap. "Whether you're buying a home or you're putting an addition onto your home."
