JACKSON, Mich. — Crews will begin working on road construction projects on four city streets in Jackson this week.

West Michigan Avenue between North Blackstone and First streets in downtown Jackson is receiving a big overhaul. The city said it is continuing to improve streetscapes, including replacing pavement, landscaping, and lighting.

During construction, that's expected to wrap up next month, that portion of Michigan Avenue will be closed to traffic. The city said you will still have access to businesses.

Other construction projects are happening in a neighborhood on Jackson’s west side. Efforts to resurface Thompson, Durand, and Higby streets continue.

"Crews will begin work to resurface pavement, repair curbs and sidewalks, and replace sidewalk ramps on Thompson, Durand and Higby streets between West Michigan Avenue and Wildwood Avenue," said city spokesman Aaron Dimick.

Those streets will also be closed to traffic during construction. That phase of work is expected to be complete by the middle of next month.
