Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, has been appointed to serve on the House Budget Committee. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Budget Chairman John Yarmuth (KY-03) announced the new leadership role and appointment for Congressman Kildee.

“Serving on the Budget Committee will give me the opportunity to continue to be a strong advocate for Michigan’s working families. A budget is a statement of our nation’s values. I look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats to pass a budget that supports pro-growth policies, expands employment opportunities, improves our health care system and creates a fair tax code. To invest in our country’s future, we must also keep our promise to veterans, seniors and the most vulnerable members of our communities. I thank Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Yarmuth for selecting me to serve on this important committee,” Congressman Kildee said.

“I am thrilled to welcome my friend Congressman Kildee to the Budget Committee. Through his time in Congress, he has proven himself to be a tireless advocate for urban revitalization, improved infrastructure, and safe drinking water, and I look forward to working with him as we lay out a responsible fiscal path for our nation,” said Chairman John Yarmuth.

In addition to the Budget Committee, Congressman Kildee will also serve on the prestigious Ways and Means Committee, the oldest and one of the most powerful committees in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Dan Kildee also serves as Chief Deputy Whip, part of the Democratic leadership in the 116th Congress. The Chief Deputy Whip acts as an important liaison among Members of Congress and the Democratic leadership team to build support for Democratic priorities.

The House Budget Committee has wide-ranging authority and is responsible for enacting budget policy and legislative oversight over the nation’s budget. Each year, the Budget Committee is responsible for developing the annual budget resolution to set levels of federal spending. For more information, visit https://budget.house.gov/.
