Officials say computer network security concerns that prompted a shutdown of some Ingham County offices won't affect voting in local elections.
Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum decided Monday to close her Mason and Lansing offices "due to an abundance of caution." She told voters in East Lansing and Haslett, however, that Tuesday's special elections on school issues in those communities would proceed.
Officials said a malware program detected Friday tried to access the county's banking information and the hacking attempt affected more than 1,600 workstations.
The shutdown meant the clerk's office couldn't process birth, marriage and death certificates or handle some other services. The Lansing State Journal reports no information was compromised. The Detroit News reports Byrum says officials are "focused on fixing the problem."
