The community is fundraising today for the family of a deceased Albion Public Safety Officer.
People are coming together at the local Hungry Howie's pizza shop.
Officer Nick Mohn's community outreach has been well documented on social media. He was well-known for stopping to play with local children, and helping people in need across Albion.
Originally from Homer, the Navy veteran was 29 years old when he lost his battle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder earlier this month.
Today, 10% percent of all sales at the local Hungry Howie's will be donated in Officer Mohn's honor.
A trust fund has been created for his three year old daughter. Albion's Public Safety Chief Scott Kipp tells us the idea is to help Mohn's wife and family with day-to-day expenses, and maybe even send Mohn's daughter to college someday.
Hungry Howie's is also accepting cash donations all week that will go entirely to the fund. Hungry Howie's Community Relations Director Amanda Hershock says online orders, in-person orders and delivery all qualify. She says they are already getting a lot of pre-orders and that more staff has to be brought in for what is expected to be a busy day.
The Albion Hungry Howie's is open from to 10 a.m. to midnight this evening.
