JACKSON, Mich. (WSYM) - A Mid-Michigan community gathered Sunday to bid farewell to a local raceway.
After over 60 years in existence, the Jackson Harness Raceway will be demolished. The project will allow for more fairground space.
Construction begins after the Jackson County Fair wraps up in August.
Its last day in operation Sunday was remembered by holding horse races.
Many community members are sad to see it go.
"It's sad, my dad's not here to see it and he would have been 90 this year,” said Diane DeLaney, a lifelong track goer. “Wo we're here for closure, and to grieve, and to have a great time."
The last race to be held at the track was in 2008.
