Common Ground music festival begins setup

Posted

Common Ground is an annual music festival that comes to downtown Lansing every July.

The event kicks off on Tuesday, July 5th, but first there will be 5 days of setup. Common Ground employs hundreds of workers to put together the park in order to accommodate the 40,000+ festival-goers.

The organizers expect there to be one of the largest crowds in a few years, and they think it's because of the acts.

"We're expecting some bigger crowds," says Jenna Meyer, one of the organizers with Common Ground. "Because of Tim McGraw, Jason Derulo, A$AP Rocky, Dierks Bentley, those are all some pretty big headliners, so we're expecting a bigger Thursday, Friday, Saturday night than we've had in a couple years."

But the setup isn't the end of it. The crews go in after the festival wraps up on Sunday, July 10th, and tear everything down over the next two and a half days. They expect to have the park back to normal by Tuesday, July 12th.
