Columbia Township Police are investigating a hit-and-run involving a motorcyclist.

Police, and fire rescue responded to the personal injury accident on Jefferson Road between Keast Drive and Q Lane in Columbia Township.

When they arrived on scene they discovered that a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Jefferson had collided with another vehicle. The motorcycle left the roadway, and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, Gerald Edward Odell, 50, of Blackman Township was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital to be treated for head injuries. He was wearing a helmet when the accident happened, and was last known to be in stable condition.

A witness to the accident was also on a motorcycle, traveling westbound about 250 feet behind Odell. The witness said that he saw two sets of oncoming (eastbound) headlights from two passenger vehicles. It appeared as through one eastbound vehicle passed the other, and struck Odell when he was near the center line of the roadway.

The eastbound vehicle that struck the motorcyclist did not stop at the scene. Police do not know if speed was a factor, but they are investigating the possibility of alcohol being involved.

The suspect vehicle that fled the scene is believed to be a 2007 to 2014 Ford Edge, white in color, with damage to the driver's side of the vehicle.
