PORTLAND, Mich. — The city of Portland is keeping a close eye on the temperatures this week.

In a Facebook post, city manager Tutt Gorman says a significant amount of ice melted and the Grand River has substantially increased flow.

No explosives were used to get rid of the ice, Gorman said.

Water levels continue to generally decline which is encouraging because of the cold temperatures this week is creating the potential of more ice on the river.

Gorman says residents still need to remain vigilant as conditions can change without notice.
