City council hoping to get answers

Lansing city council says enough is enough.

"We deserve answers, the public deserves answers on this," said Council member Carol Wood.

Wood tells FOX 47 News it's time for council and the city to know why former city attorney Janene McIntyre suddenly disappeared.

"I don't go out to a store to church to you know anywhere I go without somebody walking up to me going you know just keep at it. People want to know what happened and why," Wood said.

The city hired the Dykema Gossett law firm to help negotiate McIntyre's contract. Tonight the council will hear from the lawyers who worked on it.

And Carol Wood has a lot of questions to ask.

"When they received the billing from Dykema, when we cut checks, press releases from the mayor," Wood asked."There's obviously more, there's obviously more."

The mayor's office says most of those questions are private and details cannot be discussed in a public meeting, or closed session.

Council member Kathie Dunbar agrees and thinks the council is overstepping its boundaries.

"I don't know what the terms were for separation, but it's confidential and it's written into the agreement that it's confidential and we don't have the ability to find out what those terms were," Dunbar said.

She believes council members are using the situation for their own benefits and not for the city.

"I think there is definitely an interest among certain council people in keeping this alive and dragging it out further," said Dunbar. "I don't see the need to do that. I think that the settlement is done."

She doesn't think the law firm will be able to give out any information on why McIntyre left. She thinks it's all for show.
