JACKSON, Mich. — If you have errands you can take care of Friday night, you might want to consider getting in the car because you might not want to leave the house on Saturday.
However, if you do have to go out, road crews in mid-Michigan should have the roads in pretty good shape.
"We have a big coordinated plan for the folks here in Jackson," said Aaron Dimick, public information officer for the city of Jackson.
The city of Jackson has its salt trucks filled and workers on standby.
First, they tackle all major city roads before going into the neighborhoods.
"As you can imagine, it is going to take some time, so don't worry, we will get to you to dig you out," said Dimick.
As for those workers that aren't driving around, Dimick says they will be on sidewalk and parking lot duty for city properties.
"The rest of the parking lots are going to be done by whatever business or entity is there," said Dimick.
When temperatures hit below 30 degrees, the salt stops working. That's when they can pull those salt trucks around and pump it full of chloride. It's another measure the city of Jackson says it does to keep you safe.
"The city is conscious with how much salt we use, we know that there are environmental concerns. We look for different solutions, like using the chloride instead of salt when it's called for," said Dimick.
Jackson officials are asking if you park on the road to move your car to a driveway or somewhere off the street. It makes it easier for the trucks to clear.
Even if the roads are plowed, make sure to give yourself a little extra time to get wherever you need this weekend.
