LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) - One local church commemorated Good Friday with a live re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The "Living Way of the Cross" started at the steps of the State Capitol at noon and depicted Jesus being condemned to death. The re-enactment then made its way to Cristo Rey Church, and along the way, the 14 stations of the cross. Actors played the parts of Jesus, Mary, and Roman Soldiers. It ended at the church with the crucifixion of Jesus at 2 o'clock.
Pastor of Cristo Rey Church, Father Fred Thelen said, "It's one of the most important days of the year for us as people of faith, as we journey through the time of Christ's passion, his death and resurrection. We're delighted to have young adults leading the way this year, they've been preparing for the last couple months to make this journey today."
The"Living Way of the Cross" is an annual tradition at Cristo Rey, dating back to 1979.
