The 18th annual Childhood Literacy event took place at the Hannah Community Center on Sunday. Children were invited to come meet their favorite book characters, color, listen to live performances and hear a special book reading.
The event happens each year and is free of charge. The goal is to get children excited about reading, especially at a young age.
“That birth to five is such a critical age. Even reading to kids from the day they're born can prove to be a lifelong effort that’s really valuable to kids,” Capital Area District library assistant Mark Buzzitta said.
Buzzitta also said that children can read anything to enhance their literacy skills, whether it’s a restaurant menu when out to eat, or even road signs when in the car.
