PHOTOS: Chick-fil-A breaks ground in Lansing
You won't have to wait for that road trip to get your Chick-fil-A fix for much longer.
The chain is one step closer to opening its newest fast food location in Delta Township.
Groundbreaking at the West Saginaw Highway spot officially begins this morning, just the first step in the fast food chain's expansion in our state.
Chick-fil-A says it will open 15 to 20 locations in Michigan over the next five years.
Folks have really been buzzing about the chicken giants arrival.
"We posted on social media about the news that the old Fazoli's was coming down and a new Chick-fil-A was coming in," says Delta Township's Supervisor Ken Fletcher, "and we got a far greater response on social media than any other issue we've ever promoted."
The restaurant is set to open this fall, and will feature a 132 seat dining room, outdoor patio, two drive through lanes, and of course the chicken and waffle fries that have made the fast food chain famous.
It's just one part of the redevelopment of the Saginaw Highway coorridor.
"We have a new Rally's restaurant going to come in," says Fletcher, "as I mentioned the Days Inn Hotel is going to be replaced by Hilton Gardens, there is going to be a new restaurant and coffee shop as part of that development."
Chick-fil-A coming to Delta Township will likely create 80 to 90 jobs.
"You're going to have a lot of people coming in to Delta to go and visit the Chick-fil-A and take advantage of that," says Fletcher.
With the old Fazoli's now gone, it's full steam ahead to get Chick-fil-A up and running.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. this morning at the location at 5617 West Saginaw Highway. Community and Delta Township leaders are expected to attend.
Chick-fil-A tells us they will be delivering 2,400 sandwiches to first responders and government officials today.
