CHARLOTTE, Mich. — Voters turned down a bond proposal that would have helped with improvements to Charlotte Public Schools.
1,757 people voted yes and 1,931 people voted no.
The district was asking for $27,750,000 for building additions, security improvements and new technology.
"Some of our buildings are more experienced than others so most of the work was going to go into those buildings such as Galewood... along with Washington and our high school," said Richard Ames, Interim Superintendent of Charlotte Public Schools.
Now the district is looking for a new source of funding to fix up the schools that are already more than 60 years old.
These results are still unofficial until a canvass is done Thursday morning, but with a difference of 174 votes, the results will likely stay the same.
Dansville Public Schools had a similar millage on the ballot.
That also did not pass with 266 yes votes and 368 no votes.
