LANSING, Mich. — Hunting season has just begun with bow, which began Wednesday--but one Charlotte family is looking for the man who stole their tree stand and the whole incident was caught on their trail camera.
The man was seen carrying the stolen tree stand the Austin Family said is worth about $300. The stand was taken from their property located just outside of Charlotte.
The Department of Natural Resources said they have seen an increase in stolen tree stands and suggests hunters use their trail cams when reporting a theft.
"I guess just visiting it often, don't leave the stand and camera for long periods of time without checking on it or without using it," Andrew Turner, district supervisor of law enforcement with the DNR, said.
If you are caught stealing a tree stand, you could be facing larceny as well as trespassing charges, which could land you in jail and paying fines.
If you have any information about this stolen tree stand, or need to report a tree stand theft, you can contact the DNR or your local sheriff's office.
