LANSING, Mich. — The Center for Family Health has enacted steps to address concerns about coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, in Jackson County.
As of this date no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Jackson County, but preparing for that possibility is part of the CFH mission as a community health center.
To reduce the number of locations where sick people may gather, all three Center for Family Health school health centers at Jackson Public Schools sites will close Monday, March 16, until further notice. Those sites are at Northeast Elementary School, the Middle School at Parkside, and Jackson High School.
The Northwest Community Health Center, a school health center at R.W. Kidder Middle School, will remain open.
Patients and community members who suspect they may be sick with COVID-19 are asked to call CFH at (517) 748-5500 before seeking treatment in person.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The Centers for Disease Control advises people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience emergency warning signs including difficulty breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion or inability to arouse, and bluish lips or face.
Steps to protect yourself from the spread of coronavirus include: washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after visiting a restroom, a public place or after sneezing, coughing, or blowing your nose; using a hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available; avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands; and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
