LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) - The competition was on at Marshall park in Lansing as flag football teams raised money for the Davies Project, an organization which provides free rides to families with a sick child to and from medical appointments.
Pam Miklavcic founded the organization after her son was sick with cancer when he was young. After going through the process, she wanted to help others too.
"This is by far the most exciting work that I have ever done. We're making a big impact on this community. Making sure these kids can get to their medical care is a huge deal," she said.
The event is co-hosted by New World Flood which was founded by former NFL running back Todd Duckett, and local business owner and athlete, Justin Caine. Teams of local celebrites and former professional/Michigan State athletes face off against local teams.
"This is everything. You know, having the chance to play professional football and play at Michigan State, travel, and be able to come to Lansing and bring all that energy here. Being able to share the game that I love so much but also to the community and be able to serve and give back," he said.
This year's 'Brawl' raised over $2,000 for both organizations.
"It makes all the difference. Todd Duckett and Justin Caine have just been fantastic supporters of our work and the fact that they are reaching out to us with these funds to help us. It means the world," Miklavic said.
"Its huge. You know we keep doing our thing and keep giving back and having fun doing it," Duckett said.
