The Center for Disease Control is working to combat prescription painkiller abuse. It recently issued new recommendations to help prevent over prescribing and misuse.
Doctors are encouraged to give patients with chronic pain over the counter medications first.
They say if opioids have to be prescribed they should issue the lowest possible dose and make sure patients know the risks.
