The Capital Area Transportation Authority is out of more than a million dollars because it didn't file its taxes on time.
At Wednesday night's board meeting, Chairman Robert Swanson announced CATA paid $1.2 million in penalties and interest for filing its payroll taxes late in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Swanson blames finance department staff for not following procedures.
Those people no longer work for CATA.
CATA has filed an insurance claim to get some of the money back.
