LANSING, Mich. — Renewable energy could be getting you to work on time.
The Capital Area Transportation Authority's(CATA) board of directors voted to use 100% renewable energy at its three Lansing are facilities.
Those include the CATA Administration Building in South Lansing, the CATA Transportation Center in downtown Lansing, and the Capital Area Multimodal Gateway in East Lansing.
This is being made possible through the Greenwise program which is where CATA will purchase wind energy blocks for 1.3 cents per kilowatt hour, or approximately $32,202 per year, beginning June 1, 2019 from the BWL.
"We are pleased to announce this collaborative partnership with BWL," said CATA CEO Bradley T. Funkhouser. "Our participation in the utility's Greenwise Energy program - coupled with the Authority's recent investment in the East Lansing Solar Park and the installation of five new BWL-powered bus shelters - aligns with CATA's strategic vision and goals, as well as its long-standing commitment to sustainable development."
This bodes nicely into Lansing Mayor, Andy Schor's spring announcement about powering city facilities with 100% renewable energy by July 1, if approved.
"The City of Lansing is excited to be leading the way in renewable energy and that others in the Lansing area are joining our efforts to be a more sustainable city," said Mayor Schor.
The initial contract with BWL is for a three-year period.
