An annual relay that honors the sacrifices of our fallen heroes made its way through Lansing on Thursday morning.
The relay is called, Carry the Load.
It was started in 2011 by two Navy Seals as a way to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.
The walk is a team effort from coast to coast that is 32 days long and over 11,000 miles of ground to cover.
A local group walked from Delta Township to Lansing, and then to East Lansing Thursday, with many more places to go.
Brandon Asbry, a firefighter from Dallas told NEWS 10 that "it can beat you up and take you to a place that you wonder why people are who they are...why society is the way it is."
He added that the tour restored his faith in humanity.
In addition to the walkers, there were two cyclists that embarked on an almost 60-mile cycling trip to also honor fallen heroes.
The volunteers walking carried the American flag and a backpack full of names of fallen heroes.
Carry the Load has raised over $21 million since 2011.
The money is used to provide services for those who have served and their families.
