A woman is lucky to be alive after her car was impaled by a guardrail early Monday morning on Interstate 96 in Ingham County.

Ingham County Sheriff Deputies say the crash happened just before 2 a.m. Authorities say the woman was headed east on I-96 near College Road, when she hit the guardrail and her car burst into flames.

The woman was removed from the car. Amazingly, she was not hurt. However, she was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Deputies say the guardrail went in through the passenger side of the car, through the entire car, and exited out of the rear.

The woman's car was completely destroyed by the fire. Deputies are still investigating the crash and have not said if speed or alcohol were factors.
