We are days away from the Fifth Third Capital City River Run. During the race, as recent history have shown, there will be a 5K, relay, half marathon, and the 26.2 marathon.
The cones are set and the courses are being marked.
But before thousands of people flood downtown Lansing for the Capital City River Run, race director Michelle Coss is making final touches.
"We're getting ready for packet pick up tomorrow so making sure all of the shirts, the medals are all in place," Coss said.
Along with the medals and shirts she's checking on road closings for runners.
"The biggest areas to be affected will be on grand avenue between Shiawassee and Saginaw."
If you're used to driving down Michigan Avenue expect to slow down just a bit since lanes will be shifted down to one on both sides to let the races through towards the river trail
"Be patient. Be kind. Be careful," said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "Pay attention but there's plenty of parking. There's plenty for all down here."
There will be plenty of cones and signs to let you know of those lane shifts and closings but also officers from Lansing, East Lansing, Michigan State University Police.
"Some of them will be leading," Coss said. "Some of them will be coming up behind just to make sure everybody is safe and let everybody know this is the last person through. They'll be directing corners for traffic lights."
Closures will be made early Sunday morning just before the race.
But until then Coss says runners should just be calm and prepare to have fun.
"They've trained. They've trained hard. They'll be out here," Coss said. "They'll be working hard but now is the time for them to take it all in. Pick up their packet and enjoy the process."
The process that will lead them to the finish line.
You can still register for the race until Saturday and then again the day of for a higher price.
