LANSING, Mich. — Many retailers, grocery stores and even a fast food giant are offering curbside pickup service. Well, the service may be coming to a library near you thanks to Capital Area District Libraries. The 13-branch system, which serves Ingham County and part of Eaton County will begin testing the concept at its Aurelius and Okemos branches in June.
Through this service CADL members can call at least 30 minutes prior to their arrival and request material for pick up. Once they arrive a special number is called, and staff will bring out their order to a designated space in the parking lot free of charge.
Like its popular digital service that allows members to download and stream titles anytime from anywhere, the curbside pickup service will also help eliminate barriers of using the library.
Curbside Pickup is a viable option during situations like when a member is short on time and needs to pick up material holds, they have a child in a car seat, a person has a mobility issue and/or inclement weather.
While CADL will be one of the first library systems in Michigan to offer the service, curbside pickup has been springing up in libraries across the country, including St. Louis, MO; Cincinnati, OH and Lexington, KY.
