A camera containing pictures of Mid-Michigan pediatric patients was stolen out of a physician's car.
Spectrum Health says the camera was used to take photos of patients at the Helen Devos Children's Dermatology Clinics in Lansing and Grand Rapids. The hospital says it has notified the parents of about 900 patients.
According to WOOD TV 8, the camera was stolen on June 22nd, and has not been recovered. It contained photos taken between February 15th and June 22nd. The photos included patient's names, dates of birth, dates of service, and medical records. Social security numbers or sensitive financial information was not compromised.
Spectrum says taking patients photos with personal cameras goes against their policy. The hospital has changed some of it's procedures to prevent this from happening again.
Spectrum says police have been notified, and the hospital is investigating.
