LANSING, Mich. — Got a friendly dog that you think could do more than just cheer people up?

Sparrow Hospital is looking for therapy dogs and volunteers for their "Pet Therapy" program to interact with their patients.

The program brings dogs of all sizes to interact with patients and caregivers. The only stipulation is that the dogs have to be certified.

"I think we could have therapy dogs here every single day and still have a need. We bring our therapy dogs to some of our family lounges. I wish we could do it every day because families, they're stressed and they're in this kind of a strange environment as our patients, so everyone can benefit from a pet therapy visit," Melissa Sherry, director volunteer services at Sparrow Hospital, said.

Sherry said Pet Therapy has been a huge help for patients at the hospital. They're asking pets to be certified through Pet Therapy International.

There is an interview process after the application and then they train the pets.

The hospital said there are no breed restrictions.
