The Lansing Board of Water and Light shut off water overnight to thousands of Bath Township residents living in apartments.
The company was making repairs after a water main break.
The apartment complexes are just north of Michigan State's campus and most residents affected were students.
The BWL says water mains can break if there's too much pressure on them underground and it can happen more often when the ground is frozen.
Water is rarely contaminated due to water main breaks, but the BWL will take calls anytime for questions or concerns.
