The Board of Water and Light is making plans to upgrade its power-distribution system in East Lansing.
The current 4,160-volt system is out of date and finding replacement parts is difficult.
The BWL says the new 13,200-volt system will make it easier to move customers to an alternate circuit in case of an outage, resulting in shorter wait times for service to be restored.
As part of the change, the BWL will be installing new poles and other equipment in the Chesterfield Hills and Bailey neighborhoods.
Crews will also start trimming and removing trees in those areas on November 1.
The BWL will hold an informational open house for customers on Monday, October 17 to discuss its plans.
The open house runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hannah Community Center at 819 Abbot Road in East Lansing.
