LANSING, Mich. — In honor of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, some Lansing area businesses came together to make a big donation.

They presented a check for $147,000 to the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Commission of Mid-Michigan on Friday. The collaborative donation supports the commission's work to advance equality, diversity and social justice in Mid-Michigan.

Mark McDaniel, CEO of Cinnaire said, "There is a whole segment of our population out there that could bring a lot of talent and a lot of great ideas and maybe a different way of doing things that would basically help organizations grow>"

The MLK Commission provides scholarships to graduating seniors, hosts essay contests for middle school students and helps support a variety of community agencies.
