MERIDIAN TWP., MI. — A burn ban has been LIFTED for in Meridian Township.
On Monday, April 22, the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issued a Red Flag Warning that was in effect until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.
A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to what the weather service considers extreme fire behavior.
Meridian Township residents were asked to be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildfire.
This includes: camping, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws, and all-terrain vehicles.
These activities have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a destructive fire.
“This ban affects all current Recreational Fire Permits and Rural Residential Permits and new permits will not be issued until after the ban is lifted,” said Tavis Millerov, Meridian Township Fire Inspector.
Meridian Township's burning ban applied to all types of burning including: recreational fire pits, rural residential open burning, fireworks and sparklers.
