LANSING, Mich. — A dive team has recovered the body of a 11-year-old boy in Grand River.

The boy, Ishimwe Dieme, was from south Lansing

In the water, and from on the shore, crews searched an area near Fulton Park Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were called to Fulton Park around 7 p.m. after the boy was swept away by the current.

"A boy that had been out with his friends in the water they had lost sight of him and they ran up to call 911," Sgt. Lee McCallister, a Lansing Police officer, said.

The Capital Area Dive Team and the Lansing Fire Department searched the river banks for hours when severe weather hit forcing crews out of the water.

"We would love to go back out there tonight unfortunately, I don't think the weather is going to cooperate with us. We've been keeping our eye on it. It looks like there's a line of storms that stretch back out to Lake Michigan that are going to come one right after the other so, instead of trying to throw them in and out between the gaps, for their safety, we're going to keep them out because of the lightning," McCallister said.

The Capital Area Dive Team was back out first thing in the morning to continue the search.

According the Lansing Fire Department Chief Mike Mackey, the boy went under water and never came up.

Authorities don't know anything more at this time.
