From coast to coast, members of our armed forces who died on duty are being honored.
It's a day of reflection for mid-Michigan but also a time of gratitude.
The biggest display of thanks were the parades in several cities.
Some of them carrying on tradition and one getting a new name.
"It's now going to be known as the Bill Turner parade in Williamston. I talked to the family and asked how could we honor him. 60 years, 6-0 he was in the American Legion," Kent Hall with the American Legion said.
There are many soldiers who didn't make it home, but South Jackson Community Church felt it was important to honor the vets living in the community by showing thanks on a spiritual level offering prayer, and healing- having their first annual "Blessing of the Veterans".
Others put up their American flags half staff for soldiers who died in battle and held ceremonies to make sure everyone remembers the soldiers.
"We perform this ceremony so future generations will know what those sacrifices were of people that went before them, and why they're able to live the lives they are able to live today. We don't want anyone to ever forget," Leon Clark with the American Legion said.
