LANSING, Mich. — Michigan House Democrats are working to reduce financial strains on families.
A package of bills announced on Monday would tackle job insecurity, stagnant wages, and rising costs.
There were 8 bills in total, ,along with one House resolution, that could provide workers with protections to ensure they receive every dollar earned, as well as support to make that money go farther.
"It's absolutely time in this state and in this country, that workers continue to organize and to stand up for their rights, but they need a legislature that has their back," said Rep. Christine Greig, House Democratic Leader. " We need to have these protections in law for our workers."
One of the bills introduced was a temporary worker bill of rights that would give protections to employees hired for a limited period of time.
Another would require employers to provide employees with a 30 minute meal period when a shift is longer than 5 hours.
