A state lawmaker wants to get women to hold off on abortions by encouraging them to wait and see if they have a miscarriage first.
A bill introduced by Republic Representative Lana Theis of Brighton requires abortion providers to check for a heartbeat. If they can't hear one, they would be required to tell the woman that there is a 15 to 25-percent chance of a miscarriage until a heartbeat is detected.
Representative Theis says woman may avoid a "potentially unnecessary abortion" if they know about the chance for a natural miscarriage.
