A bill requiring convicted criminals to be present for the reading of victim impact statements passed in the State House Thursday.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Holly Hughes (R-Montague), was introduced after convicted murderer Jeffrey Willis was allowed to leave the courtroom before his victims' family read their statements.
The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.
