LANSING, Mich. — People with low-level marijuana crimes on their records may be getting a fresh start.

A bill introduced by State Senator Jeff Irwin Tuesday would automatically wipe out all convictions for possession and use of marijuana.

Irwin said the legislation would help 235,000 Michigan residents now that recreational pot is legal in Michigan.

Current state law allows people to apply to have their records expunged, but Irwin said that process is too long and too expensive.

We'll let you know if the bill comes up for a vote.
