Bill could shut down Enbridge oil pipeline

Posted

A local state senator wants to shut down the oil pipeline running beneath Straits of Mackinac.

Republic Rick Jones has introduced a bill that would likely result in Enbridge's Line 5 being decommissioned. Line 5 is 64-years-old.

Scientists say it would cause an ecological disaster if the pipeline were to rupture where lakes Michigan and Huron meet.

Enbridge says the line is safe. It carries crude oil from western Canada to a refinery in Ontario.

We'll let you know if the bill gets a vote.
